Overview of Healthcare Needs
In Lebanon, there are approximately 200 Syrian refugee patients receiving hemodialysis. They dialyze for a fee at licensed Lebanese dialysis centers under the supervision of Lebanese providers. More than 60 percent are supported by NORWAC, a Norwegian humanitarian organization that works with health-related projects in the Middle East, and the rest are supported by non-government organizations, including the Syrian American Medical Society. It is estimated that a new Syrian patient begins dialysis treatment in Lebanese centers every week.
