Overview of Healthcare Needs
In Mexico, The Global Burden of Disease 2015 study ranks chronic kidney disease (CKD) as the third leading cause of death in the country. The prevalence of CKD seems to be similar to that in highly developed nations, with diabetes as the leading cause of CKD; however, human and economic resources appear to be insufficient for treatment needs. There are a limited number of dialysis clinics in the country, and many patients, especially those living in rural areas, lack access to dialysis clinics, which can lead to a lack of treatments and ultimately death for these patients.
