Overview of Healthcare Needs
In Ecuador, the Global Burden of Disease 2015 study ranks chronic kidney disease (CKD) as the fourth leading cause of death in the country. According to a World Health Organization report published in 2014, CKD represented 5.34 percent of total deaths in the country. Many patients in Ecuador, especially those living in rural areas, lack access to dialysis clinics, which can lead to a lack of treatments and ultimately death for these patients.
