Bangladesh

Overview of Healthcare Needs

Although the prevelence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in Bangladesh is currenty unknown, studies have found that a majority of individuals lining in rural communities rank high in risk factors for CKD. One study found that one in three patients who had multiple risk factors for CKD (high BMI, diabetes, hypertension) had undiagnosed CKD and poorly controlled CKD risk factors. The access to preventative health and screenning services are low in much of Bangladesh, and coupled with the lack of education on the risk factors and dangers of CKD, can lead to a large increase in the prevalence of CKD. Many patients in Bangladesh, especially those living in rural areas, lack access to dialysis clinics, which can lead to a lack of treatments and ultimately death for these patients.
