Henry Schein Medical
Donor Since: 2001
1. How long have you been a Bridge of Life (BOL) supporter?
Henry Schein Medical, the U.S. medical business of Henry Schein, Inc., has supported Bridge of Life (BOL) for decades, beginning as a Village Service Partner, and providing more than $128,000 in monetary and in-kind donations since 2001. In addition, we have participated in and as a sponsor of Tour DaVita where BOL is the beneficiary, Henry Schein has supported BOL’s screening program, held domestically and abroad. In 2016, the Company is continuing its support of BOL’s hand hygiene program, donating medical gloves for mission trips to Haiti, and sponsoring the 2016 Tour DaVita bicycle race, as well as providing additional donations to help volunteers participating in medical missions and screening events throughout the world.
2. What made you first decide to contribute financially to BOL?
We share a similar vision for giving back to those in need as part of our commitment to social responsibility and helping enhances access to care as part of Henry Schein Cares (HSC), our global corporate social responsibility program. The creation of HSC recognizes the company’s ongoing commitment to giving back to local communities in need; a commitment that began when Henry and Esther Schein first established Henry Schein, Inc. in 1932. Firmly rooted in a deep commitment to social responsibility and the concept of enlightened self-interest championed by Benjamin Franklin, the philosophy behind Henry Schein Cares is a vision of “doing well by doing good.”
3. Why do you continue to fund BOL’s work?
We are continually inspired to support the efforts of BOL; we find their work to be tremendous. In addition, our partnership is one with equal support. BOL’s Prevention and Screening Program has been a part of many of our Healthy Lifestyles, Healthy Communities events, a flagship program of HSC. Together, we can continue to make an impact with wellness programs. Our 2015 riders, Frank Papalia, Ben Mosley and Charles Crawford, have said their participation in Tour DaVita, was a “ride of a lifetime!”
4. If you were speaking to a prospective donor, what would you consider the most important information to share about BOL and its work?
BOL is making a difference in this world through their Prevention and Education program. They are saving lives by identifying kidney disease among those whose symptoms are often silent. Through BOL, they are also serving people who need immediate dialysis treatments.
5. What do you hope BOL is able to accomplish in the upcoming year or two with your continued investment and support?
We hope BOL will continue to work globally, providing health care to underserved communities around the world. In addition, we hope there is a continuation and expansion of early detection and wellness programs here in the U.S. We welcome the opportunity to continue to work closely on such projects.
6. Is there anything else you would like to share or would like BOL staff to know?
Our Company was founded on the belief that we can fulfill our responsibilities as a corporate citizen by giving back to the industries and communities we serve. Ever since then, we have pursued the ideal of “doing well by doing good.” With social responsibility as one of our core values, we are proud to work alongside companies such as BOL and DaVita that exemplify the same spirit of corporate citizenship.
